چکیده
introduction: vertebral arteries arise from the root of the neck as the first branches from the superior-posterior aspect of the subclavian arteries. they ascend the neck to enter the cranial cavity and supply blood to the brain. methods: a total of 20 cadavers (in 10 years) were dissected for the study of variations in the origin of the vertebral artery. this study was conducted in isfahan university of medical sciences. results: in 19 cadavers, left vertebral artery originated from the first part of the subclavian artery. but, in one cadaver, left vertebral artery originated from the aortic arch between the left common carotid and subclavian artery. conclusion: the anatomic and morphologic variations of the vertebral artery are significant for diagnostic and surgical procedures in the head and neck region.

متن کاملAnatomical variations of the pre-transverse segment of the vertebral artery in Indian cadavers
Variations of the first segment (V1) of the vertebral artery (VA) are important to spine surgeons and radiologists. The present study was conducted to document the anatomical variations of the V1 segment and estimate side and gender differences, if any. The study was a cross-sectional analytical study performed on 33 adult cadavers (24 male and 9 female) of Indian origin. The V1 segment of 67 V...
متن کاملAnatomical variations of the posterior intercostal arteries and the thoracic vertebral artery.
This study evaluated the occurrence and frequency of the anatomical variations of the origin and course of the posterior intercostal arteries (PIA) in 44 human cadavers. During a classical anatomical dissection of each cadaver an anomalous course of the PIA, defined as a thoracic vertebral artery, was found in six (14%) individuals. Every dorsally coursing PIA was taken into account, regardless...

Anterior communicating artery connects the right and left anterior cerebral arteries. Posteriorly, the basilar artery divides into right and left posterior cerebral arteries and each joins to ipsilateral ...

In this article, we present 5 cases of uncommon anomalous vertebral arteries and discuss the possible embryologic etiologies. These cases include a left vertebral artery as the 2nd branch off the left subclavian, a left vertebral artery with 2 origins, a right vertebral artery arising as the last branch off the aorta, a right vertebral artery arising as the 2nd branch off the right subclavian a...
